Last week we shared a few of our resolutions for 2020. Usually, we drop our resolutions by mid-April. But this year, we kept our resolutions very simple and achievable. But if you did make an ambitious resolution we want to help you stick to it. We have a few tips on how to keep your resolutions throughout the new year. We also attached quotes from a few of our inspiring guests from A Circle in a Square podcast! You can listen to the first season here.
If you made a resolution, let us know by messaging us on our Facebook or Instagram! We would love to hear about it.
1. Talk About It
Talking about your resolutions to your friends and family will help you stick to them. Especially if you ask your loved ones to help keep you accountable. Whoever you choose to talk to will become your support system. They’ll be there for the little victories and the bumps in the road. If you find yourself struggling with your resolution, don’t be embarrassed, talk about it! That way your friends and family can help you through it. They want to see you succeed as much as you do!
2. Reward Yourself
It’s a great idea to treat yourself after you have been sticking to your resolution! Just make sure it’s in a way that doesn’t conflict with your resolution. For example, if your resolution is to save money maybe don’t treat yourself with a huge shopping trip to the mall. Instead, reward yourself in another way like taking a trip to the beach or unwinding with a movie night in! Make sure you’re taking care of yourself and that you’re still smiling at the end of the day.
3. Don’t Give Up
If you find yourself doing something that doesn’t align with your resolution, do not panic! Just readjust, and keep going! Even if you find yourself not working towards your resolution for a week, who says you should just quit? It’s never too late to get back on track. There will always be ups and downs during this process because no one’s perfect! Make sure you don’t give up if you find yourself struggling or feeling unmotivated. You’ve got a whole year to stick to your resolution and make progress.
4. Remind Yourself That Change Is Gradual
It’s a cliche but it’s true, that change doesn’t happen overnight. I wish it did, LOL! But a resolution is all about those baby steps! It might take a little while for positive habits to form. But eventually, you will find yourself not even thinking about your resolution because it will become a part of your lifestyle. Don’t get discouraged if it takes a few weeks or a few months. Everyone’s journey is different so work on it at your own pace.
5. Revive Your Motivation
While we usually start off the year strong and passionate, sometime during the upcoming months, eating healthy or working out doesn’t sound as fun as it did before. Don’t beat yourself up if you suddenly feel like dropping your resolution, it’s natural. Just take a second and remind yourself why you made the resolution in the first place! It will help you get back in a motivated mindset! After all, we do have a reason behind our resolution.
6. Remember You’re In Charge
Doesn’t it sound nice to hear that you are in charge? Well, it’s the truth! Remind yourself that no matter what, YOU are in charge of sticking to your resolution. YOU control your everyday actions and thoughts which will propel you to reaching your goal. It’s all about your mindset, that’s what everything else stems from.
