There’s a newbie in Old Towne Orange! The first time I set foot in the plaza was last Friday (literally). I grew up 30 miles away from Orange in Riverside and even went to Cal State Fullerton. In all that time, I never visited this wonderful Circle in a Square.
First impressions? Too many to begin. This historic district left me completely enamored. The classic brick exteriors and the small-town feel made me feel like I was in the middle of a fifties movie. It felt like I could have walked around the Circle for hours.
I started off the morning at a café that immediately caught my eye! It was completely picturesque like something straight out of a book. As soon as I entered Urth Caffe, I knew I had come to the right place to begin my adventure. I was in search of the perfect cup of chai tea (it’s how I start off my morning routine) and I was not disappointed! I also indulged a little bit and enjoyed a fruit custard Danish that was absolutely delish!
I then made my way down Glassell and took in the different sites and stops. There were a few stores that caught my eye at the end of the block and I immediately went in to see what they were all about.
The first store I entered was Torpedo Comics. Can you say WOW?! This place was straight out of my dreams. I have always loved reading comics with the biggest, baddest villains and the superheroes who swoop in to save the day (Marvel all the way!). The store is lined with all different types of comic books and is the perfect place to indulge your inner nerd.
Next stop?! Mr. C’s Records! I have always had a passion for music. Some of my earliest memories are my grandpa playing records of Pat Boone and Bing Crosby and teaching me the words to sing along. This record store has SUCH a variety! There’s something for everyone…no matter what genre of music you find yourself swaying too.
I walked down the street and saw a sign in front of a store that immediately grabbed my attention! It was all about women (or girls in this case) lifting each other up. I stepped into Laurenly and immediately fell in love with this store. There’s nothing but good vibes and positivity with messages written on the walls. Plus, their clothes are SUPER cute. What’s not to love?
After wandering around the circle for several hours, I ended my day sitting on a park bench. It was great being surrounded by nature and a sparkling fountain as I wrote down my ideas and what I thought about this unique place. I’ve been to lots of downtown districts in older cities, but have never fallen in love quite like I did with the sweetness of Old Towne Orange!
