I Heart on the Hunt: Cookie Monsters

Did somebody say cookies? Thanks to our neighbor Meg Faulkner’s suggestion, COOKIES are what’s hitting our tastebuds this week at I Heart OTO. We went on the hunt to find the most delicious cookies on the market in Old Towne Orange. Here’s what we discovered…

Renee here. So – if you didn’t already know this, you’re about to learn something that might just change the way you hunt for cookies in OTO…Watson’s Drugs & Soda Fountain has a GREAT bakery. It is my go-to for the best cookies in town. Chocolate Fudge Chews & Almond Crescents are my personal favorites. All are must-try’s!  And don’t worry – they have all the usual cookie favorites like snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, and peanut butter. What’s nice is that they usually have seasonally appropriate iced sugar cookies too, so you can get festive with your desserts. My recommendation: grab some cookies from Watson’s and then head to your favorite local coffee spot (try one of these) or just head home for some cookies & milk. Either way, it’s a win!

My name is Jonai and I have a confession: I am a serious cookie lover. Actually, that’s an understatement…my sweet tooth is out of control. Naturally, this week’s “I Heart on the Hunt” is going down as a personal favorite because I discovered some pretty amazing cookies at The Blue Frog Bakery. As soon as you set foot in the door at Blue Frog, you’re greeted by rows and rows of baked goods on display, and there is a great little cookie selection right there calling your name. I went for a classic chocolate chip cookie and also went for something a little different…The Ranger Cookie. I had macadamia nuts, toasted coconut, white chocolate, and chocolate chips and man was it delicious. Both cookies together cost just $2.20. Did I mention the cookies were each the size of my face? Yeah…that was pretty great.

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal (bottom) & gluten-free Monster Cookie (on top) from Rutabegorz

Cat here! My sweet tooth might not be as intense as Jonai & Jillian’s but I definitely get the occasional sweets craving and cookies are my go-to. I’ve had my eye on the delicious cookies at Rutabegorz for quite some time now & this week’s hunt for OTO cookies was the perfect opportunity to try them! All of their cookies are HUGE and can definitely be shared. Ruta’s cookies are about an inch thick (not exaggerating). I didn’t need two but I couldn’t choose just one! The chocolate chip oatmeal (bottom) was super tasty but my favorite has to be the gluten-free Monster Cookie with oatmeal, peanut butter, raisins, M&Ms and chocolate chips! It is ohhh so good! Each cookie is only $2.20 which is a steal because they are so big!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory ($2.00)

It’s Jillian! Most people know that I have a HUGE sweet tooth, and I love (or need) a sweet treat in the afternoon. There are so many adorable places to find cookies in Orange, and I decided to stop by the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I chose the snickerdoodle because my love for Fall took over, and I could not resist the festive sprinkles. The cookie was fresh, chewy, and definitely big enough to share with a friend! Rocky Mountain also had chocolate dipped Oreos that looked rich and delicious. If your inner cookie monster is making your stomach growl, this little shop offers some great options!

It does seem like Fall really kicks off the soup and cookie season, right? I stopped by Mead’s Green Door Cafe for their sweet treats because I already know that they are just so good, and often Gluten-Free (GF) or Vegan! At the counter when you order, you’ll find a small case of these freshly baked little goodies that I, for one,  often cannot resist adding to my lunch. In fact, on the day of this excursion, I ate my cookie first. Had to be done!! Pictured here are the Ginger Snap, Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie, GF Peanut Butter Crunch, and GF Oatmeal Walnut Ball.

They’re always changing their selections at Meads when it comes to the baked goods, but one of my fave’s is the Chocolate Chip. I tried the Ginger Snap from this plate, made with actual ginger bits and perfectly chewy…heaven! Each is $1.50. -Cookie Monster Kelly
