I Heart Chapman University

Happy Thursday! We hope that you had a fun Valentine’s Day in Old Towne Orange! However, we are spreading the love year round here at I Heart Old Towne Orange – and this week is no different. As a Chapman University student, I am completely biased on this topic. But being a part of the Old Towne Orange community means being a part of the Chapman University community as well, which is an amazing thing.

Not only does Chapman University have an outstanding community, performing arts program, beautiful buildings, and the 6th best film school in the nation, but they love the people that live in Old Towne Orange so much and do everything they can to give back! Here are a few reasons why!

Orange Home Grown Farmer’s and Artisans Market – Chapman University is thrilled to sponsor and host Orange Home Grown in the Chapman Becket Building parking lot. It makes for such a nice, central location in Old Towne. The farmer’s market is a great destination for an early Saturday morning OTO adventure! And while you’re visiting, be sure to quench your thirst at the water and coffee station provided complimentary by Chapman University food services.

MUSCO

Musco Center for the Performing Arts – Directly from the website, it states, “Covering 88,000 breathtaking square feet, Musco Center for the Arts provides a state-of-the-art venue for students to hone their talents, discover their voices and visions, and prepare for rich and rewarding lives in the arts. Designed by renowned architects Pfeiffer Partners, with acoustics by world‑renowned Yasuhisa Toyota of Nagata Acoustics, Musco Center boasts an intimate seating chamber with 1,044 seats on three levels.” Not only does the theatre house Chapman students, but the university also invites professional bands, orchestras, concerts, and more to the stage. For example, this season, be sure not to miss Black Violin, Bishop Gerald Causse, The Chapman Orchestra, and so many more events! You won’t want to skip the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment in Musco Center.

Wilson

Sporting Events – Chapman University is an NCAA Division III University. Because of this, they place a high priority on the education of their athletes. They state, “We seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s educational experience, and in which coaches play a significant role as educators. We also seek to establish and maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among our student-athletes and athletics staff.” Even better, all sporting events are open to the public! Visit the website to see when the next game is!

MEMORIAL

Chapman Celebrates – Every year, Chapman Celebrates transforms the university with the magic of Broadway in a heart-pounding showcase of talent and artistry. Funds raised from this event go directly towards scholarships for Chapman University students. This event is spectacular if you have not seen it before, and also benefits our future leaders and scholars. Chapman Celebrates will be held in early November 2018 so make sure to add it on your calendar!

HILBERT

Hilbert Museum of California Art – A few months ago, I visited the Hilbert Museum for a blog post (look at some selections from the gallery HERE) and absolutely loved it! The museum is absolutely free and open to our Old Towne Orange community! An amazing thing about the Hilbert Museum is you get to see a depiction of the wonderful state of California through its growth and development during the 1900’s. You get to see the way California influenced others, as it influences people every day. The Golden State has something magical about it, and Hilbert captures that for all to enjoy.

Thank you for reading! Have a great weekend and we will see you in Old Towne.
