July 21st is definitely one of the best days of the summer. Why? It’s a day that celebrates one of my fave desserts– ice cream! Thankfully there are so many places in Old Towne Orange that serve ice cream, so we contacted them to see if there were any special deals for this national food holiday. We also decided to review and show some major love to Chunk-N-Chip and Afters Ice Cream which are the two newest ice cream shops in towne.
Ice Cream
Chunk-N-Chip
On National Ice Cream Day Eve (July 20th from 5 pm to 10 pm) Chunk-N-Chip will celebrate their grand opening here in OTO. Located inside The Aussie Bean, this artisanal ice cream shop serves unique flavors that are absolutely delish! The first 75 people in line get swag bags, and during the grand opening celebration, all summer treats are half off! Check out their Instagram for more details about their grand opening! Now onto our review!
Chunk-N-Chip is located at 112 E Maple Ave, Orange, CA 92866
We tried two flavors, but we spent a long-time sampling all their flavors (they even have options for our vegan pals!) There were so many options that are unique to Chunk-N-Chip! We decided on Happy Birthday which is vanilla ice cream with moist vanilla cake (yes ACTUAL chunks of cake!) with lightly sweet raspberry buttercream and a whole lot of sprinkles. Then we got a scoop of Rock’N Oreos pizookie style. Chunk-N-Chip has SO MANY homemade cookies to make ice cream sandwiches or enjoy pizookie style (one cookie with a scoop of ice cream on top). We went with a simple chocolate chip cookie which was warm! Everything was scrumptious and you could definitely tell that everything was homemade. Great addition inside of The Aussie Bean!
Afters Ice Cream
While Afters Ice Cream has yet to announce what their special National Ice Cream Day deal is, the employees at the Old Towne location confirmed that there will be a special offer this Sunday! Keep your eyes peeled on their Instagram and Facebook pages!

Afters Ice Cream is the newest ice cream shop that replaced à la minute at the beginning of this summer. Afters has a few locations around southern California, so it already had a pretty rockin’ reputation before its arrival in OTO. Afters is famous for its milky buns (ice cream donut sandwich) but when we went to check them out we opted for just a single scoop of ice cream in a cup. We tried the Triple C’s which stands for caramel, chocolate, and cookies! It was really rich but what else would you expect from that name?! Nonetheless, it was fantastic! There were all kinds of regret for not trying this in a milky bun, but thankfully its prime location in The Plaza/Circle and late hours (they’re open until midnight, OMG) will give us a lot of opportunities to go back for more.
Pandor (Gelato)
Pandor Bakery is giving away one free scoop of their yummy gelato in their Instagram giveaway! To enter, follow @PandorBakery on Instagram and check out the post of their gelato. Impact Juice Bar serves some of my fave acai EVER! And I have to admit I am pretty picky about my acai. While it was hard for me to stray away from my usual order (The Amazonian Bowl,) Impact is offering a bowl only here for summertime! Try their Summer Crush bowl which is a blend of mango, pineapple, banana, Spirulina, and Whey Protein. Those fruits are definitely what summer tastes like to me! The Pie Hole
This summer, The Pie Hole is offering two seasonal pies. Head down to the dessert shop to try their Blueberry Pie or their Tart Cherry Pie. Shakes and Smoothies
Watson’s Soda Fountain & Cafe
This classic OTO eatery offers ice cream, sundaes, floats, and shakes! But for this summer Watson’s has a special push-pop inspired shake! Urth Caffe
Urth’s smoothies are made to order! I always order a strawberry and banana smoothie (and I add some of their yummy boba!) However you can mix up to three of their fresh fruits into your own summer smoothie. Urth offers strawberries, bananas, kiwis, pineapple, watermelon, and mango.
