Old Towne Orange may seem small, but it is home to so many exciting activities, charming sights, and exquisite food! So if you’re stressed about planning your next date, don’t worry because we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re looking for a casual day around towne or a classy evening, there’s something for you!
A Lazy Afternoon
Take advantage of the autumn weather by taking a stroll around the neighborhoods of Old Towne Orange. To keep things extra interesting, we created an Old Towne Scavenger Hunt printable! Save or download the image and take it with you on your walk around towne!
A picnic is a perfect and cost-effective way to add a little diversity to your lunch or dinner dates! We suggest hitting up the farmer’s market and then immediately enjoy that day’s pickings. However, if you aren’t in towne on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., ordering Rutabegorz, Pizza Press, or Blaze to-go are great picnic foods! Where to park your picnic blanket? Memorial Lawn at Chapman University (the huge grass lawn behind the university’s sign) or the patches of grass in the middle of Plaza Park are so peaceful and also serve as fun people-watching spots!
A Sweet Treat
Never underestimate a crumbly crust from one of Urth Caffe’s pies or their flaky pastries. A perfect date night idea is warming up with a tea or coffee and a dessert from Urth! In between Starbucks and Urth is a little piece of heaven! There are candlelit tables, plenty of heaters, and string lights overhead. Rather sit inside? There’s a large ornate white table/counter with its own fire pit in the middle!
In the mood for ice cream? Head down to Watson’s Soda Fountain and Cafe to share a fudge sundae or banana split! If sharing’s not your thing, don’t worry you can choose from seven of Watson’s ice cream flavors in your own cup or cone! Enjoy your treats on the ice cream counter or on their outside patio.
A Classy Evening
After enjoying an absolutely exquisite dinner from Citrus City Grille or Gabbi’s Mexican Kitchen, purchase tickets to a play or musical performance from Chapman University. The Waltmar Theater hosts plays and dance performances throughout the year. Chapman is also home to the lavish Musco Center for the Arts, which is hosting Disney’s Pixar in Concert this Saturday! Utilizing Chapman’s facilities is something OTO residents should definitely take advantage of!
Own The Night
Ready for a night out on the towne? The Wall has over 50 craft beers on tap! It’s so fun to try all their unique beers (maybe not ALL in one night, though) and enjoy their exciting food menu (my fave are their walnut shrimp lettuce tacos, I dream about those)! With a few large TV’s you can enjoy a sports game inside or people watch on their small outdoor patio which is in the heart of The Plaza!
Old Towne’s other brewery Chapman Crafted hosts countless events throughout the year! Some of their events are in the afternoon, and others are in the evening! Make sure to keep up with their Facebook Events page for updates and details on everything upcoming!
If you’re up for karaoke, check out The District Lounge on Wednesday nights! Or if you want to dance the night away, visit on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Make sure to arrive early to avoid the crazy lines on Thursday nights!
For The Homebodies
Looking forward to a night in? Before you put on your pj’s, visit Tiddlywinks and pick up a new board game! Tiddlywinks has classic board games from your childhood and new board games that are just as fun for your next night at home!
After your board game, pop some popcorn and turn on a movie! Have you already watched everything on Netflix and Hulu? Check out the DVD selection at the Orange Public Library! Don’t worry, if you don’t want to leave your couch the library has its own streaming service! All you need is your library card and you’ll have access to over 30,000 documentaries, indie and classic films, and children’s movies!
Now, how’s that for some new ideas right here in your own back yard!
