If you’d told us 2020 would be like this in December 2019, we would have laughed and asked you what movie you were referring to. Then March came and suddenly our lives changed. Home became the office, the school, and the playground. Normal routines shifted, and somehow we adjusted. No, that’s not true. We know how we adjusted…our moms led the way. Moms have been there to help kids transition to homeschooling while they themselves may have been working full time. For their adult kids, they helped soothe our anxiety with the same assurances they’ve given us all our lives, “it’s going to be okay.” Personally, we think Mom should get the biggest award of gratitude and love this Mother’s Day. A trip to Hawaii maybe…hmmm, maybe next year!
This year though, the least we can do is surprise mom with a day that’s all about her. Here are some of our favorite ideas to make this Mother’s Day one she won’t forget!
Say “Thanks Mom!” with Flowers
The Dizzy Daisy storefront may be closed, but they are still taking pre-orders for Mother’s Day. Surprise Mom with a beautiful bouquet via “no contact” delivery or curbside pick-up. Visit their website or call (714) 289-1123 to place your order.
Treat Mom to a Fancy Brunch at Home
The Farmhouse at Rogers Garden is offering a Sunday Brunch to-go menu featuring a frittata with ham and gruyere, or french toast with berries and vanilla cream. Orders must be placed by noon on Saturday, and pick up starts at 10 A.M. on Sunday. Curbside cocktail orders are also available, so you can pair brunch with a refreshing mimosa. Brunch orders can be placed online or via phone at (949) 640-1415.
You can also pick up a fabulous breakfast with Bloody Mary’s to go at Woody’s Diner, right here in Old Towne Orange. However, if you want to make your own, we got their famous recipe just for you.
Lift Her “Spirits” With a Custom Cocktail Kit
The Mixing Glass OC in Costa Mesa is open and offers custom cocktail kits that include everything from top-shelf liquor and small-batch bitters to barware. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and ready to help you create the perfect gift basket based on mom’s favorite cocktail. Current store hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. and orders can be made online or via phone at (714) 975-9952.
Sweeten Her Day with Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Entice her sweet tooth with this recipe for copycat Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. The best part? They smell as good as they taste! You can also drop these off on her porch for a sugary surprise.
Give the Gift of Reading
Let Mom choose from five books a month with Book of the Month. Titles range from all genres, and each month features books that haven’t been released yet. Gift subscriptions start at 3 Months for $49.99.
Get Crafty with a Memory Scrapbook
When was the last time you held actual photos in your hands? Take some time to go through your favorite digital memories, pick out your favorites and make Mom a scrapbook keepsake for her to cherish. Need supplies? Michaels is offering curbside pick-up and same-day delivery at most stores.
Pamper Mom with a DIY Spa Basket
Let her kick up her feet and relax with a homemade spa kit. This guide has everything you need to make the perfect pamper basket, from scented bath salts to bath bombs. Personalize it with her favorite scents and be sure to include a handwritten note to tell her how much you love her.
Does Mom Enjoy a Good Workout?
If your mom likes to workout, then give her the gift of these 4 free workouts from our local businesses. She can do them all in under an hour or choose whatever she’s feeling at the moment. There’s a good sweat in there, but also Tai Chi, Pilates and a wonderful Sound Meditation. Get it free right now.
We love our moms, and if we could give them the moon we totally would. Since science hasn’t reached that point yet, we’ll have to show our love another way. Need more local gift ideas? Check out our Pinterest for some more of our favorite finds, most of which can be found right here in Old Towne Orange and online. From all of us at I Heart Old Towne Orange, we wish you and your moms a very Happy Mother’s Day!
