Where to Get Lucky this St. Patrick’s Day

Hey, no pun intended, man! Whether you’ve got Irish in your blood or you just know how to live like an Irishman, then you’re excited for St. Patrick’s Day. If you haven’t figured out how to get your green on, we’ve got you covered! It’s time to have some fun, take out that green t-shirt from the bottom of the drawer and get in the spirit of St. Patrick.

O’Hara’s, DUH!

If there’s one obvious place to celebrate St. Paddy’s day in Old Towne Orange, it’s O’Hara’s Pub. The big green door in the middle of Glassell Street downtown is the first clue that this is the Irish capital of our community. Whenever I visit O’Hara’s I feel like I’ve entered a portal to a different universe (mostly, one that takes me back to visiting home from college). When I transition from the bright sunshine of the outside to the musty darkness of the bar, I know I’m getting an authentic Irish Pub experience. On St. Patrick’s day last year, and every year before that (and every year hereafter no doubt), O’Hara’s was completely packed. There was a line out the door filled with people wanting a piece of the action. Inside the pub, people were enjoying themselves sipping beer from neon green cups. This year I expect exactly the same, and so should you. Get there early, grab your spot and plant yourself in it!

This sign ain’t lying!

Corned Beef and Cabbage at Kimmie’s Coffee Cup

One of my favorite breakfasts in Old Towne Orange will be ready for St. Paddy’s day. If you are new to OTO, Kimmie’s offers the (self-proclaimed) best breakfast in town with a small-town charm. And on March 17, they’re busting out the Irish charm to kick it up a notch! Kimmie’s will be serving up charmed pancakes (which I can only assume will be green or have Lucky Charms in them?!?) and of course, the staple Irish dish Corned Beef and Cabbage. So delicious! No need to go far to experience the great taste of Ireland, Kimmie’s is just around the corner.

Activities for All Ages at Chapman Crafted Beer

All ages are welcome to celebrate St. Patrick’s day at Chapman Crafted Beer. They sure know how to celebrate in style. If you haven’t been there lately, they have expanded their tasting room and added many family-friendly games including cornhole and table tennis. My kids always have fun there because there are so many games to choose from. To kick off St. Paddy’s, on Friday they are releasing 4 different beers which include a Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. On Saturday, the big festivities begin. Delicious grub will be provided by the food truck Mexitup, with a special St. Paddy’s menu. I can’t wait to see what Irish inspired deliciousness they have put together.  From 12-4 PM the brewery is hosting a Family Shamrock Hunt. This is a great way for the kiddos to expend some energy. Kids will be looking for Shamrocks hidden in the brewery and the winners will get a pot of gold, the kind of gold made of chocolate. The staff reassured me that adults can help in the hunt. Later in the evening at 6 pm, the brewery is hosting an Irish Heritage trivia. Anyone can participate in the fun. The best part is the winners of the trivia gets 50% off their tab.

Green Treats at Cupcakery & Co.

The best thing about cupcakes is that they can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Can you say cupcakes and coffee? Cupcakes are one of the most versatile desserts. If you are celebrating St. Paddy’s in the office or at home, these bright green cupcakes will sure be the crowd favorite. Cupcakery & Co has the cutest cupcakes ever. Now that’s a green party win while staying on a budget.

Well, that’s our roundup for this year’s Irish festivities. I’m sure there are many more opportunities to enjoy some good ole green fun. I usually try and find the best Irish Coffee I can (which is honestly made by my husband) and most years we make it back home in time for our own Corned Beef and Cabbage, made with a new recipe every year. However, this year I found a recipe that is SO darn amazing, I might just make it every year. If you want to take a peek at that then HERE you go. My only tip is that I’d do the veggies for only 2 minutes, I don’t like them too mushy.

Have fun out there, take an UBER and be safe, too!
