Now that spring has officially sprung there’s so much to look forward to in the sunny months ahead. Students are in their last stretch of the school year and we can feel the anticipation floating through the through the streets of Old Towne Orange. Now that our SoCal spring weather is here to stay, it’s time to start firing up the grills and get those backyard barbeques rolling. Grilling is a must during this time of year, because it’s the perfect excuse to get outside and celebrate the pleasant change in season! We decided to share one our favorite BBQ recipes for a refreshing way to end a warm day. If you’ve never had a caprese steak before, you’re in for a special treat! The mix of simple and fresh flavors complements each other so well, and makes for a fantastic outdoor dinner!
There’s nothing like a savory piece of filet mignon and we know the perfect place to pick one up. Our good friends at Buy Ranch Direct sell exceptionally high quality meats at the Orange Home Grown Farmers and Artisans Market every Saturday. Once you experience how tasty their organic, grass fed, humanely raised products are you’ll never go back! This week, we’ve partnered up with Buy Ranch Direct to bring our readers an amazing giveaway! Stick around for the end of the blog post to learn how you could win two cuts of their 6-8 ounce beef filets (this is a $40 – $50 value!!).
Here’s what you’ll need:
Two 6-8 ounce oz filets (Buy Ranch Direct)
About 2 oz of freshly sliced mozzarella
2 roma tomatoes, sliced (Gayton Family Farm)
Fresh basil leaves (DIY Mason Jar Herb Garden)
Balsamic Vinegar (Enfuso Olive Oil)
Olive oil
Salt and pepper
Start by lightly coating the fillets with olive oil and season with salt and pepper to desired taste. Turn your grill on high, and place meat on the gill. Reduce to medium/high heat, cover and cook for 5 minutes. Flip, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes.
Now for the fun part. Layer as much or little cheese, tomato, and basil as you’d like. Close grill, and cook for an additional 5 – 8 more minutes.
Remove and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. We also suggest throwing your favorite vegetables on the grill for a simple side dish. We selected some fresh asparagus from Gayton Family Farm and it was SO delicious!
