If you’re a parent, then you know persuading your children to read can be quite a daunting task. However, local author Alane Adams is hoping to change that! The entrepreneur and literacy advocate author is changing the reading game in an effort to motivate kids to get interested in reading. Originally from Orange County, Adams is back in town from her cross country tour to promote the newest book “Kalifus Rising” in her series, “Legends of Orkney.” Her success made waves throughout the country by earning the top spot on the Amazon #1 bestseller list and received outstanding reviews and acknowledgements from Kirkus.
Adams has used the “Legends of Orkney” series to motivate youth and get them excited about reading through the use of technology. Through her transmedia platforms, Adams teamed up with Artifact Technologies to create BattleKasters, a location-based mobile game modeled after her Legends of Orkney series. Similar to Pokemon Go, the game turns live events into dynamic game boards, allowing players to collect trading cards and cast magical spells.
As part of her return, Adams will be promoting the game, as well as Kalifus Rising at three different Orange events:
