An Affordable Family Clinic Right In Our Neighborhood

304084_227725497282070_203900388_nYou all know how much I love highlighting local groups and local businesses…especially when they are doing good things for our community. In light of this I want to share with you all some info about the Francis Smith Center for Individual and Family Therapy over at Chapman University. It’s a low cost, non-profit, community mental health clinic located just about 5 blocks from Chapman’s main campus. The state-of-the-art facility is located in Crean Hall on Palm Avenue.

Now, this clinic is nothing new; it’s actually been in operation since 1965, but I think it’s one of those gems of our city that should be given a little more recognition.

The Center offers low cost counseling for anyone in the community. They see individuals, couples, children, and families. A really neat thing about the Francis Smith Center is that the therapists are students in their final year of the MFT program (Marriage and Family Therapy, supervised by a Marriage and Family therapist) at Chapman. If you’re tight on cash, there are very feasible options available here. The clinic offers a sliding fee schedule between $10 – $60 per session, depending on you or your family’s monthly income. They offer bilingual counseling in Spanish as well. Here’s a snippet from the website:

The dual mission of the Center is to provide high quality and affordable mental health services to the local community and to provide an excellent training and research environment to the graduate students in the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program at Chapman University.

I’d say that this is a great way to improve both the community as well as the learning experience for the students.

You can get in touch with the clinic via their main phone # 714-997-6746. It’s important to note that clients must do a phone intake for information before they come in for a session. You can also visit the website www.chapman.edu/counselingservices.

The wide variety of clinic hours makes it easier for families to find a time that works for them to come together. They are even open on Saturdays. Hours are:

Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm;frances-smith-center1

Friday 9am-5pm;

Saturday 9am-3pm

If you or someone you know has been looking for a low-cost option for marriage and family therapy or individual therapy, you should definitely consider this clinic! It’s right here in our neighborhood, so why not take advantage of Chapman’s great services!
