A guide to Old Towne Orange and Orange, CA
The Community Foundation of Orange’s Talent Blossoms in Orange Workshop has a new way to
bloom! A visual arts segment has been added and will be overseen by Orange resident and artist,
Judy Schroeder who stated, “The quality of the CFO board is stellar and my grandchildren have
benefitted from what the foundation has to offer, so becoming involved was an easy choice. When I
started teaching in 1963, I had to fight for my art program in my classroom but that’s nothing like
what they have to do now for teaching art. This is a wonderful way to introduce art to youngsters. I
think that all little kids are artists at heart; they love to draw and paint. I want to encourage that
desire before the self-critical thinking begins. I cannot wait to hear a child say that they had a ‘great
time’, or ‘I’m going to do more drawing’, or ‘wow, I didn’t know I could do such a good job’ because of
his/her time spent with art at Talent Blossoms in Orange!”
Talent Blossoms in Orange is a free workshop, open to 3rd – 6th grade students who attend school
and/or live within the Orange Unified School District boundaries. It will be held on Saturday, October
24th at Santiago Canyon College’s D Building. Check-in begins at 8:15 am and the day culminates
with a 2:30 pm performance for family and friends capturing this year’s theme, “My Country ‘tis of
Thee”. Areas of study for the day include: visual arts, choir, dance, theater arts, and instruction on
flutophone, hand chimes, violin, clarinet, percussion and trumpet.
This is the 5th annual workshop hosted by CFO and the second consecutive year that a program has
been added, with the theater arts portion added last year. Susie Cunningham, CFO Executive
Director explained the importance of the event, “We have many board members who have a passion
for the arts and want to share that with the youth of our community. Art and music are very
important to the development of a child’s brain; in fact statistics show that both positively impact
overall academic achievement. Through CFO we want to draw out what creates passion in every
child in our community, whether it is through playing soccer, running track, playing an instrument, or
creating art. We are thrilled to add the visual arts component to Talent Blossoms in Orange this
year, especially under the tutelage of Judy Schroeder. Those children will have a great experience!”
Online registration is now available on the CFO website: www.communityfoundationoforange.org
Space is limited for some sections; registering early is suggested to ensure that students will get
their first choice of areas of study. The workshop is free and includes a t-shirt, lunch, snacks and
bottled water; a $5.00 deposit is required to confirm attendance and will be refunded at check-in.
