Smoqued BBQ is Smokin’ Hot

I’m going to come clean right at the beginning of this post. I really enjoyed Smoqued BBQ, the newest in Old Towne Orange tastiness. I went last night with the family to give it a try and we were impressed. We had been to Beach Pit several times and while we weren’t huge fans, we still enjoyed it when we were in the mood. Well, last night we were in the mood for BBQ and Smoqued delivered.

It smells delicious when you walk in, so we were basically salivating about 5 minutes after we got there. We ordered the Brisket, which is a great meal and comes with 2 sides. You could cut it with a fork! One of the sides we ordered was the Green Beans, recommended to us by the waitress. She told us they were crispy, just barely cooked and I LOVE green beans that way. They were absolutely delicious. I will tell you though, if you like your Green Beans steamed to softness, you’re not going to like this version. We also got the fries, which were good, but my son got the BBQ Beans as his side and they were out of this world. My favorite thing at the table, I wanted to gobble them up. Next time, I’m going Green Beans and Baked Beans. The Brisket was really good, but I will say that it was a little on the dry side, however I just dipped it in their various BBQ sauces and was perfectly happy.

So, let’s talk about the BBQ sauces for a minute. They had 2 on the table plus a mustard, which I didn’t try last night. Both the sauces were YUMmy, but my fave was the Habanero BBQ Sauce, it was spicy, good and spicy, but it didn’t bowl me over. However, reader beware, I have a high tolerance for spice, I can take some heat.

Ok, I’m going to save the best for last, which was the 420 Mac, but first I’ve got to give a little shout out for the Kids Meals. My kids had the Mac n Cheese and the Ribs. My 4-year old daughter demolished her Mac n Cheese, which came in a mini cast iron skillet and my son loved his ribs. I didn’t try the ribs, but they didn’t look like they were falling off the bone, however, he worked on them until they were gone and was very happy. So, kudos on the kids meals and they each got a side, a drink and a corn bread.

So, here’s the Piece de Resistance. It’s called 420 Mac and it’s on the appetizer section of the menu, it should definitely be put in the dinner section. It a bucket of Grilled Corn Bread, Mac n Cheese, Texas Chili, Roja Pork (lots of it), Bacon, Corn, Onions, Cheese. People, this is not a healthy selection and I can only imagine what you’re thinking while you read, but I died over it. I’m not sure I could order anything else there next time because the memory of it is SO DELICIOUS! Holy Moly, try it!!  Just save your calories for a week before or go to Boot Camp the next morning!

That’s it for me ladies and gents. This is a great spot to take the family for dinner in OTO. And, they have a bar with craft beers. I didn’t have any of those, but I’ve heard they’re very good. They are located at 128 N Glassell.

  1. i want to add that the pecan pie is like a little piece of nirvana. Warm with ice cream and very very indulgent!
