Ways to Show Kindness Every Day
Kindness sometimes seems like a lost art. We get so caught up in our own lives and forget there are other people with feelings just like ours all around us…which is why it’s SO important to spread a little kindness and pay it forward every day. Whether it’s a smile or simply holding the door open, those little gestures can go a long way. Here are some ways YOU can show kindness not just during the month of love, but throughout the week!
Have you ever heard that a smile can light up an entire room? It’s one of the easiest ways to show kindness and doesn’t cost a thing. Studies also show that smiling lifts our mood and helps us appear more attractive to others. Can you say win-win?
Hold the Door Open
You may be thinking, really? Holding the door open is something that comes naturally to some people, but lately it feels like the opposite. Whether you’re at work, the grocery store, or the gym, the people around you will appreciate you taking the time to do such a simple favor!
If you like something about someone, tell them! A genuine compliment goes a LONG way. You can even get creative with it: grab a stack of sticky notes and write positive statements on them. Then, place the notes in common places where people will see these sweet reminders, like an office, gas station, or even hide them around your home. Here are a few fun ideas to get you started:
- You know who’s awesome? Read that first word again.
- You’re a hard worker, and it’s very appreciated!
- Throw kindness around like confetti.
One of the most genuine ways to show someone you care is to take an interest in what they have to say. Ask questions and engage!
Put Away Your Phone
This may seem like a no-brainer to some, but we live in a world where people are constantly glued to their phones or the latest piece of tech. If you put your phone away during a conversation, it shows the other person that you are present and actively listening to what they have to say. When you can’t, explain to the other person WHY you can’t put your phone away.
Keep in Contact
It’s easy to become so wrapped up in our own stresses and worries that we forget to reach out or stay in touch with friends and family. Send a good morning text or a shoutout to someone you haven’t talked to recently. In fact…we challenge you to do it today!
Pay for the Person’s Coffee behind you
Want to start a chain reaction? It’s all about the coffee (or tea!). There have been so many stories about people paying it forward by buying someone’s drink in a Starbucks line, and then it just keeps going! It really shows the gift of giving back and gives you all the warm fuzzies for the rest of the day.
These are just some small ways to get started and spread some daily cheer. Tell us how you show kindness every day!
