Book Review: Trapped by Kelly Matillo

 In Lifestyle

photo-4An Old Towne Orange local, Kelly Matillo, recently published her first book called Trapped. She reached out to me in the hopes that I would read her first book and spread a little buzz for her. I have to say, I love reading, I’ve always been a lover of stories and so, I asked her to drop the book off on my way out of town for a little vacation. What better time to start a new book!

I told Kelly that I’d read the first chapter and then write up a review for her based on that. Well, I read the first chapter on the plane to Hawaii followed by the next 12 chapters and finished it completely the next morning. That should tell you something right there.

The story, Trapped, takes place in Seal Beach, California. I’d say it’s a combination drama, thriller, love story (kinda) with a few laughs. Mostly, drama/thriller. It’s the story of 32-year old Robin Jacobs who’s brutally attacked and raped. The story unfolds as she tries to figure out what happened to her and takes a series of missteps along the way. There is actually something pretty relatable to the character and the way she is portrayed.

I don’t want to give away too much of the story, but there were some good turns and twists that surprised me, which I was glad for because I like a good twist. It’s the kind of book that I would consider and ‘easy-read.’ You pick it up and can’t put down until it’s done and it reads fast. It’s dramatic, but not too deep and it has a nice flow to it. I’d recommend it!

So, go out and support a local who just wrote her first book. You can find it by clicking HERE. Good job Kelly, can’t wait to read the next one!

Book Overview:

Robin Jacobs is living a seemingly normal life until the night she is brutally raped, beaten, and left to die in a park only a block away from her house. Befriended by strangers and driven by a paralyzing fear that the man with the cold green eyes will never be caught, Robin lies helpless in a hospital bed as she watches the only life she has ever known disintegrate before her very eyes.

Yet Robin knows she is a survivor and is determined to break free from the terrifying memories. With the support of her brother Paul and best friend Kate, Robin finds the strength to move past the attack and even falls in love-without ever knowing that the sequence of events that preceded the brutal rape will be far more detrimental to her future than she ever could have imagined. Worse yet, Robin is about to make a mistake that will cause more pain than the rape itself.

As Robin’s life spirals out of control, she soon realizes that only she has the power to take it back from a madman who will stop at nothing until he achieves cold-blooded revenge.

The book was given to me to review, but my opinions are my own.
