I Heart Antiques – Higgins Design and Interiors

By The Antique Addict
With my out of town guest in tow (my mom, who introduced to me to antiques) I veer off the beaten path from the Plaza area in Old Town Orange (OTO) so I can introduce her to a hidden gem just down the street, Higgins Design & Interiors.
Delighted by a beautiful Garden of Eden-like entry, we make our way to the front door where the owner, Mr. Gordon Higgins, greets us. He welcomes us in and makes us feel right at home as we browse from room to room looking at all the great furniture, much of it antique.

Higgins-2The one that catches our eye is the unique lighting fixture hanging from the ceiling in the sun room.

Just as I suspected, it has a very interesting story behind it.  Back in the 1930s, Gordon explains, it was located in a See’s Famous Old Time Candy Store.
The sparkling clean, black and white candy shops were designed to resemble Mary See’s home kitchen, which explains this fixture’s style and color perfectly. Just a short time ago, Higgins Design & Interiors had been the proud owners of four of these amazing light fixtures. This one, Gordon tells me, is his last one.
Rumor has it that on Saturdays Gordon makes homemade cookies to give to each of his customers, as if you needed additional reason to stop by!
Higgins Design & Interiors is located on 910 East Chapman Ave.

  1. It’s nice to be reminded of the lovely Higgins Design….sometimes it slips my mind, being just off the beaten track in Old Towne….a nice respite and delicious decor…..and I love that light fixture! I can see it in my vintage green and pink bathroom!

  2. Hi Jan, thanks for the comment. If you decide to go and pick it up for your vintage bathroom, be sure and mention you heard about it from me!
