Hilbert Museum of California Art Grand Opening

February 27, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

free

The Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University was established thanks to the generosity of Mark and Janet Hilbert of Newport Beach, who donated artworks worth approximately $7 million, plus $3 million toward building a museum to house it.

The Hilberts’ superlative collection focuses on the “California Scene” painting movement of roughly the 1920s through the 1970s and beyond.

The Hilbert Collection – which includes oils, watercolors, sketches and lithographs of rural and urban scenes, coastal views, farms, ranches, freeways and landscapes that tell the story of everyday life in the Golden State as it evolved through the century – is a significant repository of 20th-century narrative art by California artists.

The 7,500-square-foot Museum is located at 167 N. Atchison Street in Old Towne Orange, just across from Ruby’s Diner and the Orange train station.

It will open to the public with a free, two-day Open House and Reception on Friday, Feb. 26 from noon to 5 pm, and Saturday, Feb. 27 from 5:30 to 9 pm, with event parking in the Chapman structure at 200 N. Cypress St.

Regular Museum hours will be TuesdaySaturday 11 am to 5 pm, closed Sundays and Mondays.  Admission to the Hilbert Museum is free.  Regular Museum parking is available directly in front of the Museum.
