I Heart on the Hunt: The Perfect Stack

The Perfect Stack

Who doesn’t love a delicious sandwich right? I mean what’s better than a few select ingredients between bread? This week, we decided to tackle the amazing world of sandwiches and go on the hunt for the perfect stack! There’s no way we could hit every place in Old Towne for this particular hunt, but we did come up with some yummy finds.

Provisions: Burrata, Pesto & Tomato Grilled Cheese

Provisions: Burrata, Pesto & Tomato Grilled Cheese

This is Kelly, and I’m going to start you off with the 2 places I hit in the last week. The first is Provisions Market and the second was Smoqued BBQ. Provisions is definitely one of my go-to’s in OTO. I love both their food selections AND their beer. All of it is just so good! They recently changed up their menu a little bit and actually trimmed it down to a few select options. One thing they started doing is having both a ‘special’ sandwich for the week, as well as a ‘special’ grilled cheese that they change up week to week. Hubby and I opted for the special grilled cheese and boy were we happy. It was made with Burrata (oh heavenly Burrata, I cannot resist you), Pesto and Tomato. O.M.G. Served up with potato chips and a beer and we are talking about sheer happiness. I mean Get. In. My. Belly…Now! Can’t wait ’til they have that tasty one on the menu again! ~$10

Smoqued BBQ: BLFTA

Smoqued BBQ: BLFTA

This week, I headed over to Smoqued BBQ, was thinking about getting their pulled pork sandwich, but then discovered this other one called a BLFTA. The FT stands for Fried (Green) Tomato. I couldn’t resist, I just had to have it. Wow, wow, wow, this was so, so, so good and definitely the right choice for me. I have fallen in love with fried green tomatoes, big ‘ole’ slices too. At Smoqued you also get one of their yummy sides and they do not skimp on those sides. I chose the Deviled eggs, you get 3 with a hunk of bacon on top. Wow again! I’m going back for more of this sandwich. $12.99

Cat here! I went over to one of my regular lunch spots, Two’s Company, for this week’s hunt for a great sandwich! Their outdoor patio is a great spot to enjoy a good book or people watch while enjoying a delicious sandwich. I normally go for the chicken pesto panini (which is sooo good!) but opted to go for the turkey cranberry panini because I’m trying to pretend that it is actually Fall even though we are still going through this crazy heat! It was a great choice! Their cranberry sauce was the perfect combo of sweet & tangy. You also have a choice of potato salad, caesar salad or pasta salad as a side & a yummy little cookie! The perfect sandwich lunch! If you haven’t checked out Two’s Company, I definitely recommend it! ~ $7.50

Chicken and waffle sandwich from Bruxie

Hi this is Jonai! I made a trip to Bruxie (right on the corner of Glassell and Palm) because obviously waffle sandwiches could NOT be overlooked on the hunt for the best stacks in OTO. I actually ordered the prosciutto and gruyere waffle (which is not pictured here but was super delicious), but my boyfriend’s chicken and waffles-waffle totally stole the show. I mean just look at this thing. The waffle portion isn’t sweet, so don’t be turned off by the verbiage “waffle sandwich.” It’s got a generous hunk of friend chicken DRIZZLED IN HONEY with a light layer of coleslaw resting on a savory waffle “bun” of sorts. Did I mention it’s drizzled in honey? This tasty little number was $7.50.

Avocado sandwich from Rutabegorz

Avocado sandwich from Rutabegorz

Jonai again! This one goes out to all my vegetarians out there…I made a trip to Rutabegorz looking for an alternative to meaty sandwich faire, and came across their avocado sandwich. I LOVE avocado, and this sandwich was exactly what I hoped it would be – a generous serving of fresh avocado topped with some tomato slices, cheddar cheese, and sprinkled with sunflower seeds for a little crunch. And by the way, the squaw bread is to die for. I always forget that Rutabegorz always includes a pickle spear and a small serving of a side item (in my case it was a brown rice/cilantro/tomato mixture and it was delish!) which is just the best surprise! This sandwich will satisfy any vegetarian out there, or anyone looking for a lighter lunch option. Cost: $9.67.

Cubano from Felix Cafe

Cubano from Felix Cafe

Renee here! What better place for a Cuban sandwich than Felix Continental Cafe in the Orange Plaza? It was a sunny day, and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting at their signature sidewalk tables while I enjoyed this signature sandwich. Ham, pork, swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles was all grilled up panini-style – minus the grill marks. I think it’s safe to say that Felix’s has perfected the Cubano, and the cafe patio seating just adds even more flair to the Felix dining experience. The cost was $8.50.

Cortona from Cafe Lucca

It’s Jillian! I stopped by Cafe Lucca, and believe it or not, I’ve never had lunch there before! I’m a fan of traditional sandwiches, so I chose the Cortona. What could be better than roasted turkey, provolone cheese, tomatoes, sweet onions, romaine lettuce, and their house pesto?  The combination was delicious, and if I could have the house pesto on every sandwich for the rest of my life, I’d be okay with it. The Cortona is served on a hearty multi-grain bread, and I was stuffed after the first half so I saved the rest for later. Cafe Lucca has a great ambiance, and there are so many other sandwiches I want to try here. If you’re looking for a tasty and filling meal, I would recommend this adorable spot.  Cost: $10.25
