An Afternoon Affair with The Curious Clay Society

Old Towne Orange has continued to boom, and it seems like there’s something interesting to do around every corner. The I Heart team has had an amazing time blogging and buzzing about the wonderful additions that have arrived throughout the neighborhood. Along with all the new changes in town, we certainly have enjoyed both refreshing rains and beautiful sunshine this year. However, our glimpses of radiant weather had us craving some outdoor fun. Taking full advantage of the dry side of the SoCal winter climate, we decided to take our latest team bonding event to the outdoors. We recently had an eventful afternoon as The Curious Clay Society guided us in learning the basics of creating pottery.

The Curious Clay Society is a mobile ceramic studio that travels across the area to host “pottery parties.” They specialize in throwing gatherings for children’s celebrations, adult ‘sip and throw’ nights, school field trips, private/corporate events, makers fairs and more! They bring everything you will need in their fully stocked, fully functioning ceramics studio on wheels. Parties both large and small will receive one-on-one instruction on creating their own piece of pottery! What better way to bond than over some Valentine’s Day inspired ceramics, right? During our event, we decided to make heart shaped bowls with candy heart sayings!

Well, first things first. Before getting started, we enjoyed some wine, cheese, and snacks to get the creative juices flowing. This is a very important step, that we don’t recommend skipping!

Almost everyone on our team was a pottery newbie. However Amy, owner and instructor, made this an easy peasy process. Each team member was guided through a painless, step-by-step beginner pottery lesson. She also allowed us to modify our masterpieces as some of us preferred different shapes and sizes.

It’s important to start painting and embellishing the pottery while it’s still wet. So after throwing our bowls on the pottery wheel, we headed straight over to the decorating station where we got to customizing! We painted with various colors and made candy heart sayings with alphabet noodle letters.

Overall, the I Heart Old Towne Orange team had a fabulous bonding event with The Curious Clay Society. The process took about 2 hours, and was the perfect way to top off the afternoon. We can see how this is a great way to bring family and friends of all ages together to share in enjoying this activity. From children’s celebrations to bridal shower parties, everyone can join the fun! Whether your next gathering be indoor or outdoors, we definitely recommend checking them out.
