5 Farmers Market Toast Recipes

Breakfasts can become a mundane routine, but it doesn’t have to be! After wandering around the farmers market this weekend, I was inspired by the fresh bread and colorful produce from the local vendors! I thought I’d share five sweet and savory toast ideas to spice up your breakfasts or snack times! These are extremely delicious and feel a little more elevated than your average buttered toast. I used squaw bread from OC Baking Company, but you can use your fave type of bread for all of these recipes. (Pro tip: if you visit the farmers market close to closing, bread from OC Baking Company is ‘buy one get one free’! However, you risk the chance of your fave bread being sold out!) All of these toasts are very simple to prepare but are so tasty. Enjoy!

Tomato, Mozzarella, and Avocado Toast

Ingredients

  • Avocado
  • Mozzarella
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Pepper

This toast is light and would be the perfect accompaniment with some eggs in the morning! First, dice your mozzarella and avocado into cubes. Next, cut your cherry tomatoes into fourths. Place on top of your bread, then sprinkle ground black pepper on top. Finish it off with a drizzle of olive oil.

Apple & Almond Butter Toast

Ingredients

  • Almond butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Fuji apple

I first slathered a generous portion of my almond butter (this is one of the things I didn’t buy at the farmers market, but I just cannot get enough of my Justin’s honey almond butter! – However, they do have 2 vendors that sell nut butters and they are delicious!) After my toast was ready to go, I cut my perfect Fuji apple into even slices by cutting around the core of the apple. After I placed my apple sliced on my toast I sprinkled a little cinnamon on top. This would also be delicious popped in the oven for a couple of minutes under the broiler.

Mediterranean Toast

Ingredients

  • Hummus
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Arugula
  • Cucumber
  • Goat cheese

This toast is absolutely bursting with so many fresh flavors! I smothered plain hummus from Mom’s Specialty Foods (the best hummus guy at the farmers market) to start my Mediterranean toast. Then I placed a few slices of cucumber followed by cherry tomatoes which were again cut into fourths. Next, I put a handful of arugula on top, then some crumbled goat cheese to tie all the ingredients together. This toast is probably my all-time fave!

My Autumn Toast

Ingredients

  • Pear
  • Honey
  • Butter
  • Brie

This toast tastes like fall, even without any trace of pumpkin! I first buttered my toast, then placed slim shavings of my pear onto the bread. I cut some brie cheese into cubes and then finished this off with a drizzle of fresh honey with honeycomb! Trust me when I say honey with honeycomb tastes so much better than normal storebought honey!

Dried apricots, brie cheese, arugula

Ingredients

  • Dried apricots
  • Arugula
  • Brie
  • Olive oil

I’m not gonna lie, this toast made me feel FANCY! I love dried apricots, and I’m so thankful Sunnycal Farms sells them at the farmers market. For this toast, I placed the dried apricots down followed by brie cheese without the wax/rind. Then I topped it off with a handful of arugula and a drizzle of olive oil.

Bon Appetit, friends!
