Summer is coming to a close, and soon the leaves will change and the weather will get chilly! Still, there's just enough time left for one more summer adventure before the kiddos head back to school, so we found the perfect spots for you to take your family for one last bit of summer fun! Read on for the scoop...
Kelly, Tiddlywinks: A great place to take the kids is Tiddlywinks, in the heart of Old Towne Orange. It's a boutique Toy Store, offering way more than the usual toys. You'll find plenty of games, both from today and blasts from the past. On the educational side, you'll discover books, science and art projects, activities to keep kids busy and more. They're always having events too; they might even be having a family game night at the end of the month. We'll keep you posted on that, but be sure to follow them on Facebook at TiddlywinksOC. There are so many fun, creative things to find at Tiddlywinks that we can't find at other toy stores, things that are off the beaten track and that's what makes them so unique. We buy all of our kids gifts there and they absolutely love it!
Montana, Orange Public Library: My favorite summer escape is definitely the Orange Public Library! As a kid, I loved going to the library to spend hours lost in the pages of a great book. Each book is like a new adventure, and the best part about the library is that you can join your kids on these adventures by sharing a book with them. The library has an amazing kids and teens section with many of your kids’ favorite books, like the Harry Potter series, John Greene’s novels, and books like The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar for younger readers. Sit with your kids on one of the comfy chairs (next to an all-black suit of armor!) in the Teen’s Section, or take them upstairs to the Reading Room to enjoy a dimmed, cool reading spot perfect for an afternoon away from the summer heat. The library even holds fun summer activities, like a free weekly movie and pajama story time. Take the kiddos over to Orange Public Library, pick up one of their favorite books, and enjoy some fun bonding time.
Lindsay, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory: If you're looking for a place to go with your kids for one last day of summer fun, what better place to go than a Chocolate Factory? Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is fun for all ages and it's the perfect stop at the end of a busy day to get the little ones a delicious treat. Rocky Mountain has everything your sweet tooth craves, like yummy Caramel Apples, giant Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut Clusters, and rich, creamy fudge to name just a few. I've always been a fan of any kind of peanut cluster, so of course I had to get one, and to no surprise it was filled with pure chocolatey goodness. If the kids are itchin' for one more adventure, then spend these last few days of summer freedom surrounded by chocolate!
Renee, Big Red Comics: Big Red Comics is all about family. They offer classic comic books as well as collectible card games, arcade games, game tournaments and Family Movie Night. This Friday, they will be screening The Witches, a Jim Henson Production. The show starts at 8 so get there early to learn a little more about this great shop.
Andrea, Hart Park: I took a stroll around Hart Park, but as soon as I stepped out of my car, I was reminded of my childhood days when I couldn't wait to go to the park for soccer practice. The smell of grass and the sound of cleats clanking on the sidewalk were wonderfully familiar. Hart Park is huge—there were several youth soccer, softball, and baseball teams practicing, and there was still plenty of room for more! Hart Park has a long and winding trail that’s perfect for a walk with the family. Once you’re done with the walk, you can hang out in the cool shade of the giant trees! Or, you can enjoy a nice lunch at one of the many picnic tables. If your child still has energy, Hart Park also has a fun playground for them to climb, swing, run, and play in. If you're looking for a fun, beautiful, and safe park to take your kids on a little afternoon adventure, Hart Park is the perfect place to go!
