In early 2004, Jill Etzold Kester was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She continued her fight until that October, when she lost her battle. Jill spent the last 15 years of her career at Artistic Hair in Orange, California. In 1996, the Artistic Hair family (including Jill and owner Barbara Nolasco) started raising money to fight breast cancer through their annual “Cut-A-Thon,” with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Before she passed away, Jill was determined that the proceeds of the Cut-A-Thon be used to benefit hairstylists diagnosed with breast cancer.

Hi everyone, this is my first year doing the CHOC walk and I want to encourage you all to come out and walk it with us! I am walking this year with the Hit the Mark Fitness team and you are invited to join the team with us. I’m even bringing my kids and husband along for the fun. It’s a 5k WALK, no running allowed and the kids will LOVE it, and I mean LOVE. Here’s the walk:

The Orange Public Library Foundation, in partnership with Orange Home Grown Farmers and Artisans Market, will be holding a very special benefit-screening of the multiple award-winning music documentary film, The Wrecking Crew at the gorgeous, state-of-the-art Folino Theater on the campus of Chapman University’s Film School in Old Towne, Orange. The benefit will take place on Saturday evening, October 13th, 2012. Event ticket sales will raise funds to help the Orange Public Library Foundation and the Orange Home Grown Farmers and Artisans Market advance their efforts to enrich the cultural life of our local community.

It’s always a great time to get involved, and with the 22nd annual CHOC Walk coming up, it’s a better time than ever! Last year, over 14,000 participants raised over $1.7 million helping to support the care, services, education and research that CHOC provides children. So this year, we want to make that number even bigger!
