Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog. If you don't follow our Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook (first of all, you need to follow us!) and second of all, you might've noticed that we're extremely excited for the Orange International Street Fair approaching in just over a week! The City of Orange hangs signs throughout the plaza that show which country is where around towne. You’ll have to visit Greek Street, Mexican Street, Children’s Street, and more to explore new cultures and foods this Labor Day weekend.
Over the last 2 weeks, I've been sharing some of the sponsors that will be hosting booths at OISF and why they're such a huge part of our community in Old Towne Orange. Two weeks ago, I shared that the Assistance League of Orange will be hosting a booth at the fair and last week, announced that the Elk’s Lodge will be selling fish, chips and beer. And this week is no different! Friendly Center will also be hosting TWO booths at OISF! From their website, Friendly Center shares, “Friendly Center began in 1924 by a men’s community Bible study to help local farm workers. Today, Friendly Center has expanded to help thousands of families each year to keep their children safe, stable, and secure. Our vision is to bring an end to poverty in the unseen parts of Orange County.” They offer over 20 programs to over 1,000 families in Orange County each year.
They offer programs in four different areas: family support, food, emergency, and education. The family support programs offer counseling, domestic violence intervention, parenting classes, and case management. The food programs offer food benefits to families who are struggling to put dinner on the table. In the case of sudden misfortune in the family, Friendly Center offers resources to pick families back up off their feet with emergency programs. And lastly, education plays a huge role in the mission statement of the Friendly Center. They offer after-school tutoring, kindergarten readiness, and Adult ESL classes for those in need. It is fair to say that Friendly Center does so much for our community in Orange and Orange County, a lot of which only goes noticed only by those in need.
Luckily, we'll be able to give thanks to Friendly Center this Labor Day weekend at either of their two booths. They have been participating in the fair for over 40 years and love giving back to the community in this fun way. Be sure to check out their food booth and beer booth on Labor Day Weekend.
Their mission statement is, “Friendly Center is a comprehensive family and community resource center dedicated to improving the lives of children, adults, and seniors by helping them move toward self-sufficiency through immediate aid and a variety of educational and life skill programs.”
Have a great weekend everyone. We will see you at OISF in OTO!
