ALO at the Orange International Street Fair

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Thank you for reading all summer, leaving us comments, and loving Old Towne Orange with us every day. If you have not caught up on all of our summer adventures, click here to visit the blog feed and read all about them.

This week, we are super excited to announce that our next series of blogs will be all about the Orange International Street Fair (OISF)! If you do not know, let me catch you up! The Orange International Street Fair is a historic event in Old Towne Orange - this year celebrating its 46th year. In 1973, Orange wanted to host an event to celebrate its 100th Anniversary and thus, the OISF was born. The tradition was such a success that it has become an Old Towne Orange Labor Day tradition. It's a place where friends and families can come together, make memories, eat great food, explore other cultures, and support local businesses. What's there not to love?

So for the next four blogs, we're going to highlight four organizations that contribute to the success and growth of - not only the OISF - but Old Towne Orange as well. That way, when you visit the OISF on Labor Day Weekend, you can stop by their booths and stores for yourself! This week, we are highlighting the Assistance League of Orange (ALO). ALO is a non-profit 77-year old organization that is located right here in the heart of OTO (lots of acronyms today guys!). Their mission statement from the website states, “Assistance League of Orange is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing humanitarian services to those in need within the community of Orange.” If you want even more information, click here to watch their video! They support 20 philanthropies, from Operation School Bell to dental health and clothing. ALO even rewards scholarships for students, tutoring/mentoring programs, financial support, senior citizen support, Christmas gift-giving...... and this is just the tip of the iceberg. It's safe to say that ALO is doing so much for our community in Orange, a lot of which you may not be aware on a day-to-day basis.

You might know Assistance League of Orange from their thrift shop in the Plaza. You know - the one on the southeast corner with the amazing window decorations? THEM! This thrift shop is primarily how ALO fundraises for the programs they offer to the community. And this year, you’ll be excited to hear that the Orange Blossoms (an Auxiliary of ALO) will be hosting a beer booth at the OISF. When you're at the fair, they invite you to stop by, grab a beer, and chat with them.

On Labor Day Weekend, the Orange International Street Fair will commence! Make sure to meet the Orange Blossoms and thank them for all of the amazing work that they do for our children, families, and community. Thank you, Assistance League! And thank you for reading everyone!

Be sure to visit ALO at the OISF in OTO!

PS: Assistance League of Orange Thrift Shop is now open til 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays, and purchases are EXEMPT from Sales Tax!
