Chapman University started construction for the Musco Center for the Arts nearly 4 years ago, and now it’s almost here!
The groundbreaking for the Musco Center was in 2012. And since, we have seen dump trucks, cranes, bulldozers, forklifts and caution tape marking the construction of this long awaited building. We can finally clap our hands and celebrate that the grand opening of this beautiful building is near.
With the addition of this state of the art building, Chapman University will be one of the nation’s finest venues for performing arts. Chapman had the help of world-renowned acoustic specialist Yasuhisa Toyota, and architects, Pfeiffer Partners in the building of Musco Center for the Arts. Toyota helped to create Walt Disney Concert Hall and Stanford University’s Bing Concert Hall. With both of their help, the Musco Center is a new landmark in Old Towne Orange. The Musco Center for the Arts covers 88,000 square feet which will provide students ample space to learn, practice and perform. The Center can hold 1,044 people on 3 levels in their performance chamber.
Prepare for a historical event on March 19th, when Chapman University opens the Musco Center’s doors for the grand opening event at 6:00 pm. You won’t want to miss out on performances by opera legends Placido Domingo, Deborah Voigt, Milena Kitic, an orchestra and chorus of more than 150 voices, and an array of distinguished artists and Chapman alumni, directed by John DeMain. A free community event will take place on April 2nd, showcasing local talent, diversity and Chapman student potential. This event starts at 11AM and goes all day long indoors and out! Chapman will have continuous performances by local artists and performing arts students. The event will offer backstage tours, stage tech demonstrations, children’s activities, and food! To cap off the night, there will be a grand performance by Pacific Symphony conducted by Carl St.Clair. Mark this date in your calendar, and be a part of history! If you are interested in applying to be a local performer at the Musco Center for the Arts Community Open House and Arts Festival, you can find the application here. They are seeking artists and performers of all types – music, dance, theatre, circus and family-friendly acts. The application deadline is February 12th, so make sure to get those applications in!
