image001 300x300 The City of Orange Celebrates 125th Birthday this SaturdayOrange lovers, this is your chance to come out and party with all of your neighbors and friends to celebrate our City’s big 125th birthday. This Saturday, April 6, Orange is putting on a block-party in the historic Plaza of Old Towne Orange.

We are going to shut it down at the circle (meaning NO cars allowed) on Saturday and starting at Noon, the Plaza will come to life with live music from local musical group Superlark, a children’s activity area, carnival games, and face painting.

Our local non-profits will be teaming up with favorite food vendors such as Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Archie’s Ice Cream, and Kona Shaved Ice.  The Orange Fire Department will be firing up the BBQ (no pun intended), and providing hot dogs and chips for only $1.

At 1 p.m. our Old Towne Churches will ring their bells in honor of the Birthday as the Orange City Council leads a marching band down Glassell Street and around the Plaza to kick-off the official program.

KCAL 9 and Channel 2 Sports Anchor, and Orange Resident Gary Miller will be the Master of Ceremonies for the City of Orange 125th Birthday Celebration.  Gary is also the host of the Dodgers “Think Blue TV”.  After working at ESPN for 17 years he finally landed here in Orange where he feels he really belongs.

The City will recognize the “Oldest” of Orange, including oldest business, resident, service organization, and more.  The grand finale, of course, will be the ceremonial “Cutting of the Birthday Cake” birthday treats for the crowd while they last, and a community photo. Residents are encouraged to wear orange clothing and say, “Cheese!”

Superlark will again begin to play as “cake” treats are distributed to the public. The festivities will continue until 2:30 p.m.

The Orange Public Library and History Center will also be celebrating the Birthday with special program on the rich history of Orange.  From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. they will offer light refreshments and a new presentation featuring newly digitized historical photos of Orange.  Special speakers for the Library program will include local historian Phil Brigandi and Mayor Tita Smith.

Hope to see you all this Saturday, I will be there with my kids in tow!
