City of Orange Solid Waste Contractor Adjusts Fees, Adds New Service
A slight increase in fees for solid waste disposal will soon be seen by the folks of Orange. Below is the official press release from the City of Orange:
Beginning July 1, 2012, businesses and residents in the City of Orange will see a slight increase in the fees paid for solid waste disposal, although even with this slight increase Orange customers will still pay some of the lowest solid waste collection rates in Orange County. Residential Customers will have a 1.85% increase to their monthly bills, which is 22 cents per month. Commercial customers will see a 1.79% rise, or about a dollar more for a 3-cubic yard bin collected once a week. CR&R Environmental Services (CR&R), the company contracted by the City of Orange to provide waste disposal services requested the rate adjustment, as allowed by contractual obligation, to offset increasing costs such as labor, fuel, insurance, and disposal fees.
When compared to the 32 Orange County cities that offer comparable waste services, Orange commercial waste customers pay the lowest collections fees, while residential customers are the 4th lowest. In both cases, Orange customers are comfortably in the lower 3rd in rates paid throughout the county.
Also beginning July 1, CR&R is excited to be able to offer a much requested new service to commercial customers. Food Waste Collection, starting at $18.24 per month, will allow commercial customers to have their food waste collected by CR&R in 64-gallon containers. The collected food waste will be turned into compost instead of going into a nearby landfill, which is a win for customers and the environment.
