Many of you have read or heard that our beloved PJ’s Abbey is up for sale. I’m sure you all know by now that I am the kind of person that is ‘all for change,’ but sometimes (more than I’d like to admit to myself) even I sit back and am saddened by what the recent economy has done to us on many, and I mean many, levels. This happens to be one of those instances and what takes it up a notch is that I personally know the Mead Family and can attest to their hearts, and their passion for this community.

There’s so much more than storefronts that make up the business side of Old Towne Orange, which is why I like to find the little gems in our community and give them a shout. This gem actually found me first and she is quite the creative cat! Her name’s Erika Ward and her business is Betsy’s Drawers.

If you haven’t had the chance to stroll by this classic new barber shop, then I highly suggest you do. I’d say it perfectly complements the flavor of Old Towne Orange. Owned by Phil Hernandez and Eric Webb, this punk rock inspired barber shop caters to the ‘walk-in’ client with Men’s Cuts at $20, Straight Razor Shaves at $20 and a Single Clip Buzz at $10.

Hey Orange residents, the City of Orange will be launching AlertOC, a “reverse 911” contact system, with a Citywide test at 2 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010.
The City is urging residents and businesses to visit the City of Orange website at www.cityoforange.org, click on the AlertOC news story, and register additional points of contact. These can include cell numbers, text message numbers, email addresses, or phone numbers outside of the City.

Whether you’re already swingin’ to the beat or you’ve always wanted to learn, Wednesday nights at Strutters’ Ball is the place to get your groove on. Every Wednesday night is LIVE MUSIC swing dancing. At 7pm, a beginner workshop is offered, 7:45 for intermediates and from 8:30 – Midnight, it’s dancing the night away to live Jazz. This Wednesday, the group happens to be celebrating 3 years of the Southland’s Strutters Ball.

This Sunday, September 19, the Orange Senior Center is holding their 10th Annual Poker Run. This is an amazing event and all proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels and other programs at the Orange Senior Center. The event day is all about motorcycles and cars and raising money to feed our seniors locally. The Orange Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program deliver’s nutritious meals five days a week. For many seniors, this is their sole interaction for the day; they look forward to seeing their friends each day and the meal is a bonus. So, please come out and support this cause.

I cannot believe that I Heart Old Towne Orange won for Favorite Local Blog in the Orange County 2010 Just Spotted Best Blog Awards. I am ecstatic!! And, a little shocked. In case you don’t feel like watching movies under the stars at Chapman tonight, here’s another idea. Affaire de Coeur is hosting a gathering from 6:30 – 8:30, tonight, September 10 to celebrate the winding down of summer. Professional Harpist Pam Brown will be delighting with her musical talents and Old-World still life artist Alice Hernandez-Gaona will have several of her amazing pieces on display.
